Step 1

Well I'm starting to figure out the feeling's associated with having a passion, I hope. By relating experiences and things that you learn, it becomes a matter of actually putting in steps. Not just by hoping one day it will just pop out and hit you in the jaw. So here is the first of the steps in finding a passion.

Step 1- You need to be happy with yourself. Your body must be in a good place physically and mentally. Studies show that physical activity gets the blood flowing in your body and brain and this in turns helps you think better and clearer. Another way is by meditating; new research that will appear in the January edition of the journal, Psychiatry Research, shows that meditation affects the flow of blood to the brain.

As you exercise or meditate you should pay attention to what your mind is saying because you may just realize some inspiring things and in the end you will at least feel better.

So what I've started to do is:
1) Every day I will do at least 30 min of exercise
2) Every day I will do at least 20 min. of stretching or breathing techniques (there is a lot of benefits in breathing exercises)
3) Every day I will have at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables

A healthy life is a happy life and I think the only way to find a passion is to be happy.

  1. I agree with you. Being healthy and active definitely makes for a happier state of mind. Good for you, Ryan. You will be surprised at how easy and habitual it will be to maintain those three goals.

  2. I think I might actually try some of these suggestions. I think in between assignments I might have a smoke, beer and follow it with a few stretches. All things that make me happy.

  3. Your suggestions really make sense. If I've been eating a bunch of junk food and not exercising, I don't feel my best. I've never tried any breathing exercises, so that will be next on my list of things to try.

  4. Im going to try your breathing excercises today. I want to get ready for the summer months ahead and I believe I do not feel my best without working out and eating right.

  5. I always say that I am going to do X amount of exercising a day, but I always seem to slip and exercise just when I feel like it. So I've started out with small steps and once I build a strong routine, I'll work my way up. I've found the the key is to set realistic goals.

  6. With our busy and hectic lives, I think it is really important to take some time to relax and meditate. Meditation can help ease our minds and bodies of stress. I know I need to make more time to meditate.

  7. I like the fact that you want to exercise for 30 minutes because exercise is such a broad word. That could be really anything and it also helps to clear the mind. So whenever you are having a hard time doing something or need to think of it, that is the best time to do exercise. Love the goals, simple, manageable and everyone can follow along and do them too.

  8. Since starting school I have formed the most unhealthy habits. I don't do any form of exercise and I eat terribly. You have motivated me to make better choices and I know I have to stop using being busy as an excuse. Good post!

  9. Good post Ryan. I know that I'm always much happier when I exercise regularly. However, since school's been so busy I have found myself exercising less and less. I need to find the time to start doing this more often.
